ORLEANS, Louisiana:
With exploration and production still struggling
to catch up to last year’s levels, the US’s
crucial Gulf of Mexico oil and gas industry is
gearing up for what could be another dangerous
hurricane season.
Offshore oil production on the US Gulf Coast,
which hurricanes Katrina and Rita brought to a
halt last year, remains down by about 21% from
normal capacity, the Minerals Management Service
(MMS) reported this month........Full

lease sale draws competitive bids for Cook Inlet

The state of
Alaska auctioned 613,100 acres of state-owned
oil and gas leases May 24 in the North Slope
foothills region and Cook Inlet with apparent
high bids totaling nearly $6.7 million. The North Slope regions drew only one bid per
lease, but there was competition for several of

NICOSIA
Libya has officially opened
one of its largest natural gas fields and has
said Europe will be a major customer, according
to a report from the Jamahiriya News Agency, the
official Libyan press service.
"Libya will be an
important supplier of gas to Europe," Shokri
Ghanem, Libya's top oil official, was quoted by
the agency as saying Sunday at a ceremony for
the official start of production from the
Attahadi field, in the central region of
